The Detroit Fighting Irish continued their winning ways on Saturday afternoon as team captain Clay Hightower 3 point performance (2G !A) combined with a stingy goaltending performance by Justin Sheets secured a 4-2 victory for the Irish over the visiting Midwest Blackbirds.
The Irish started the scoring in the first period when Brendan Higgins converted a Brendan Hull - Clay Hightower pass play at 13:47 mark. At 4:14 Clay Hightower did a dance in the Midwest Zone an d fired the puck past the Blackbirds goaltender to put the Iirhs up 2-0.
For most of the 2nd period the score remained 2-0 hoever the tide began to turn when the Blackbirds Tristan Bjorkland scored with assist going to Jackson Smith and Ryan Rachul.at 16:42 . At 19:49 on the power play Clay Hightower got a piece of a Railfs Vilcins Shot from the Point to put the Irish up 3-1 at the end of the 2nd period
Lane Stewart would add the insurance goal at 16:19 of the 3rd period with an assist going to Railfs Vilcins and Brendan Higgins . The Blackbirds mounted an offensive attack which led to a goal by Ben Skellie however some stellar saves by DFI Goaltender Justin Sheets was enough to insure victory for the Irish
