Matthew Martin to Play for Irish for 2020-2021 Season

The Detroit Fighting Irish announced today that Matthew Martin has signed to Matt Martin with Scout Derek Antolplay for the Irish for the 2020-2021 season. Martin a 2001 forward is from Muskegon Michigan where he was a 2 sport athlete standout in football and hockey for the Mona Shores Sailors. "Matt brings a mature approach to the wing position using his exceptional speed with his tendecies to the physical side of the game making his presence felt every time he is on the ice " stated team player development director Sam Shaheen

"Matt will compete for one of our top forward positions from what I have seen during the camp and tryout process we are fortunate to have a player with his grittiness come to our program" Head Coach David Taylor

Martin upon graduation from Mona Shores High School made a decision to forgo playing hockey to play football at Alma University as a scholarshipped athlete however after a year of playing pickup and senior hockey a change of heart and as Matt said  "I missed the one of a kind brotherhood  of the hockey locker room". " I know were getting one hell of a player however from the reports i have been getting Matt and fellow sailor Jager Kelly are quite a pair of anglers and have a pretty good record as fin slayers. I am sure they will be happy with the fishing on this side of the state". Gm Dan Vasquez 

Matt joins fellow Muskegon Mates  Chris Hawkins, Derek Antol Jr and Jager kelly whom were all standouts from the Mona Shores and Reefs Puffer programs." I have always been a big fan of the style of hockey that has been played on the west side of our state and have to give Kudos to scout Derek Antol for his great work in that area this year as well as Sam Shaheen and Jeremy McNulty whom have covered a lot of ground this season" stated Vasquez

The Irish will hosting a Combined Tryout Camp August 15th and 16th  with the New York Aviator at the Irish home arena in Southgate Michigan the teams will be offering opportunities for USPHL Premier, Elite and U16 Division teams 

The Irish final training camp will be held August 22-23rd at the Southgate Civic Center Ice Arena, the camp will be an invite only camp and should give fans a great feel for what the 2020-2021 version of the Detroit Fighting Irish will look like Detroits returning veterans as well as this summers acquistions, tenders and prospects will be on hand  competing for a spot on the Irish roster
